The Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair on Hardwood Floors

A high-quality robot vacuum can make a huge difference in keeping allergens such dust and pet hair under control. Not all models are the same.

There are a myriad of options available for you to choose from, whether you need a pet-friendly vacuum or a robot that can complement your other cleaner.

1. Eufy RoboVac Edge G30

The G30 Edge, the latest model in Eufy’s budget-friendly range of robotic vacuum cleaners, is the most up-to-date model. The app also comes with advanced features, such as boundary lines remote control access while the robot is working and a range of other options.

This model is the most recent in a long line of Neato robots and features a unique "D" shape when viewed from above. This design offers several advantages, including improved corner-cleaning and a larger bin of dust than the majority of models. The D-shape also enables the robot to reach under furniture better than robots with a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly stop before beginning a cleaning process to make use of spinning infrared light to assess and scan the area. Then it will work in a grid, gradually moving from one area to the next until the entire floor is cleaned. It struggles on carpet, but is still better than other robots in this price range. The Roomba i3+ EVO also does very well in navigating between different flooring types and doesn't get hung up on transitions the way older generations can. The dual multi-surface rubber brushes can adapt to different flooring types and are able to resist tangling in pet hair.

The i3+ EVO has less obstacle avoidance than some of the other robots we evaluated. It frequently encountered objects such as pet toys, handbags, and shoes before continuing its course. It also had trouble dealing with salt from kosher, coarse, which it blew over and around rather than picking up.

The i3+ EVO is packed with features that make it worth the extra money over other Roomba models. It has the ability to self-empty the bin and more advanced control via an app. You can schedule cleanings and create custom routines. You can also designate zones that prohibit the robot from entering certain areas. The smart scheduling system will suggest additional cleaning during allergy season and depending on the routine you follow. Its navigational system is somewhat unreliable however, and it sometimes vacuums in erratic lines, such as zigzags or diagonals instead of parallel to walls.

It was able to navigate obstacles well during our testing and is controlled via an app or voice. It has a huge dust bin for messes to be collected before they're full. The only issue is that it could take up to 166 minutes to finish its job, but that's still better than the majority of robots we've examined.

Cliff Detect and an edge-sweeping brush ensure that it can get into hard-to-reach corners, while Dirt Detect sensors alert it to areas that are heavily soiled. The battery lasts for about 60 minutes and comes with an automatic emptying of the dust bin. The pricier iRobot J7 comes with an advanced suite of features and is better on all surfaces. It also feels better constructed and has a bigger dustbin it charges faster and navigates obstacles like electrical cords more easily.
