Best Over-Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones

If you travel on a noisy public transportation or work in a noisy office with chatty colleagues, noise cancelling headphones can provide the sound buffer you need to stay focused. We looked at the comfort, sound quality, and the ability to block high-frequency continuous noises like restaurant chatter, or incidental noises of short duration such as phones ringing or keys clacking.

Sony's WH1000XM5 headphones are an excellent choice for high-end ANC. The WH-1000XM5 has no rival in its noise cancellation when enabled. The controls work well, although there's a little delay between pressing them and the action they take (i.e. when you play the button while on a call and you're on a call, you'll end up blasting your ears with music instead of picking up your mom). They don't have any built-in microphones for voice commands support, but they do feature an audio response from Google Assistant and their mics are great at removing background noise in phone conversations.

The battery is expected to last for up to 20 hours for most people. They include a USB cable that can be connected to your phone to charge however it's not as easy as using Bluetooth however it's a solid feature to have and ensures you can listen to your music back after recharging. They also work with audio devices that have 2.5mm ports, which means you can take them on the road.

Monoprice BT600ANC

The Monoprice BT600ANC Bluetooth noise cancelling over-ear headphones have all the features that you need in a pair, but at just a fraction of the cost. They come with premium Qualcomm aptX HD Audio, a cutting-edge version of Active Noise Cancelling, and a portable folding design that makes them easy to store in the backpack or carry bag. The headphones are great for commuters and students, since they come with an extremely long-lasting battery that lets you to listen throughout the day long. They also come with handy control buttons that allow you to swipe or tap to alter the volume, skip tracks or answer calls.

The BT-600ANC headphones sport an uncluttered design that recalls the Monoprice M1000ANC headphones we looked at last year. They're matte gray and aren't branded at all. This system takes some practice to master, but once you have the hang of it, you will find it very useful.
