How to Replace an audi car key holder G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor Audi car key holder is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It is a little tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing at all. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is in another place.
I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.
I'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

The good news is they are very affordable and easy to find, especially in the case of a Bosch model, which is what ours are. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is an excellent choice.

It is an important part of the transmission in your Audi because it relays information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.
